Sandra Lo
Painter

Born in China, and raised in China and Hong Kong, Sandra Lo grew up in an environment surrounded by paintings by her father, a figurative oil painter. He saw in his young daughter the potential of being an artist, and he taught her how to draw and to paint, and told her that "the human figure is the most beautiful creation of the world."

Sandra studied oil painting and figure drawing at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Between 1987 and 1988, Sandra spent most of her time figure drawing, and found that her father was right. "I was amazed by the delicate composition of the human figure." In 1989, Sandra immigrated to the United States. She continued drawing and painting and attended some workshops with Bay Area artists, but her father continues to be her mentor and primary teacher, and she's developed new skills, techniques and visions on her own.

Like most artists, Sandra found it necessary to develop computer skills in graphic, web design, and desktop publishing in order to make a living. She stopped painting for almost ten years. But "deep in my heart, it breathes with art," and at the end of 2004, Sandra picked up her paint brushes and began painting... "My passions were ignited again.... Like fish in the water, birds in the sky, I freely express myself in my world of painting. Whether it be happiness, sadness, success or disappointment, I enjoy experiencing all the emotions through painting." And she demonstrates this in her portrait paintings, which is now her specialty, but continues to paint still life paintings of life around her.

She is a member of San Francisco Women Artists and her paintings are exhibited at their gallery. Her pastel "Christmas Lights" received a Merit Award in the December 2006 show.
