Stephen Roberts graduated from Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art Design & Technology in Ireland. "Art school gave me a good insight into the process of art making and a good philosophy of visual thinking." Stephen relocated to San Francisco in 2003 and has been working with top decorators and artists doing murals, faux painting, and paper hanging.

Stephen believes art should always be leading somewhere. "My art is about paint itself: how it moves, how it blends the aesthetic of the brush stroke, gesture and color, which plays a big part in my paintings...how colors affect/effect each other, from subtle to sharp changes in contrast."

"I rarely plan a painting. I prefer to let my brush and paint lead me. At the start my ideas are basic, and once painting, new ideas emerge. I use oils in some paintings for its extended drying time and its elasticity allows for manipulation of the structure of a painting. In contrast, I uase acrylics so that the effect is fast strokes of the brush and lots of layers in a short period of time.... Above all, I love the process of art, and I approach it with a playful yet serious attitude and hopefully this comes across to its viewers."
